GIVING HUNGER THE BLUES™ MISSION STATEMENT

To feed, nurture and protect the children in our community.

History

In 1996, fueled by a desire to make a difference “Giving Hunger The Blues™” was born.

It’s mission … to provide those less fortunate with the most basic of needs … food.

From this modest beginning seventeen years ago as an extension of the annual Share Our Strength Taste of The Nation event, “Giving Hunger The Blues™” has grown each year and has become the All Faiths Food Bank’s biggest one day fundraiser, having contributed, to date, over nine hundred thousand dollars.

In Sarasota County, one of the most affluent communities in Florida, one out of ten of our neighbors combat hunger every day…of those, 33% are children.

Beneficiary

We are continuing our partnership with The All Faiths Food Bank.

This event is wholly volunteer driven and all proceeds benefit All Faiths Food Bank.
“Five years ago, 37 percent of kids in Sarasota County were eligible for free or reduced-price school breakfasts and lunches. That number has now climbed to 50 percent ” (Jill Collins, Director of Nutrition Education at All Faiths Food Bank).
All Faiths Food Bank provides not just foodstuffs to the community but also a variety of educational programs and other innovative forms of aid.
Since the economy has gone sour, the food bank business has been bitter sweetly booming.
Last year, All Faiths distributed three million pounds of food — this year, they expect closer to five million.
All proceeds from Giving Hunger The Blues go directly and immediately to All Faiths Food Bank children’s programs: Cooking Matters, Kid’s Cafe, The Backpack Program and Growing Healthy Kids.
